Welcome to Soulspring Dance Studios

Welcome to the brand-new premier dance studio in Vancouver, WA. This dance studio began as a dream idea nearly 15 years ago, when owner Malia McKinnon still lived in Seattle working as a professional belly dancer. She taught multiple classes a week, directed a dance company, produced stage shows, traveled to teach workshops, performed at nightclubs and special events, and was all-around encompassed in dance life. The natural next step was to open a dance studio, but she soon moved to Clark County, Washington to be near family and raise her children, and she put that dream on hold.

Fast forward to Fall 2021, Malia began teaching online classes during the pandemic. Once businesses reopened she converted her home basement into a dance studio where she taught in-person fusion belly dance classes for two years. She eventually took a short break from teaching and focused on career planning, which has led to the opening of Soulspring Dance Studios October 2025!

This space was created by a dancer for dancers (and those who wish to become dancers). We are an inclusive space dedicated to LGBTQIA++, BIPOC, gender-affirming, movement-forward communities. We thrive in welcoming new dancers that want to learn, expand, and grow through dance and movement practices. And we love welcoming established dancers back into their practice, or to explore new modalities.

Our Mission is simple: to celebrate, preserve, innovate, and share the rich traditions of global dance cultures.  We work to achieve this through inclusive education, diversified offerings, and community engagement, and we seek to empower individuals of all backgrounds to connect with heritage, express identity, innovate through creativity, and transform through movement.

So what is included in global dance cultures? Any form of dance that we can find instructors for! This ranges from raqs sharqi to burlesque to hula to zydeco and more. If there is a dance form you’d like to see offered, let us know! If you teach a dance form not currently offered, reach out to discuss job opportunities! Dance is not exclusive to Euro-centric styles, and we recognize the value and skill required of all global dance forms (not just those on SYTYCD, though we love those too).

We genuinely hope this space becomes a place for you to be curious, to learn about yourself, to meet others, to feel connected, to feel a sense of belonging, and to find the joy that learning a dance discipline brings. Structured, rigorous training is paradoxically liberating and opens up a new world of creativity to those that pursue it.

Welcome to your new dance space. We really mean it when we say “dance your way to joy.”
